There
is no doubt that we have found what we were looking for
at Mother's Garden - more time for family life, space, the
chance to grow our own organic food, to live in harmony
with the environment as much as possible, and to test ourselves.
How
well we are succeeding is a very difficult question (and
depends on which day you ask it!). A key aim, too, has been
to respect and integrate into the local Catalan community,
and to give our children every encouragement to open their
minds to different cultures and languages.
The
10-acre farm and Mediterranean climate means they spend
a great deal of time outdoors, learning about nature and
having fun away from the influence of television. But life
on our Spanish smallholding can be very, very hard work
and there are many challenges ahead.
The eco-tourism plans for the farm are very exciting, while
we also intend to build on our very modest produce sales
under the Mother's Garden label.
There are other projects too and we will keep you up to
date on all developments on this website (See our produce
page).
Since
the first television documentary we have received an incredible
amount of mail from people seeking specific advice - far
too many to reply to, so our sincere apologies if you were
one of them.
The problem is that, fundamentally, such a dramatic life
change is a very personal matter and depends upon so many
things, including perseverance and luck.
The best we can do is to tell our story in a book - No Going
Back Journey to Mother's Garden - an honest account of two
extraordinary years in our lives -see the book page.
The
key message to anyone thinking of following our example
is that the timing, the place and the support all have to
be right and you need to have a shared determination if
you are to have the best chance of finding your dream...

As a result of the response to the documentaries we are
also considering offering 'hands on' breaks here at Mother's
Garden for people earnestly contemplating a similar move.
This would give couples and families a flavour of the many
challenges and realities, both good and not so savoury,
that they may face. Keep an eye on this website for developments.
